A stegosaurus wanders out of a tipped canister and into a carefully arranged still life - past a Talavera vase, a teal glass bowl and a green linen cloth. Nobody invited him. He doesn't care.

The Unexpected Guest is a still life with a sense of humor, painted with the same careful observation and layered color that goes into everything else. The Talavera vase detail alone took longer than the dinosaur. Probably worth it.
